2008 OCVG President,
Marc Averitt |
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. - November 19, 2007 - Orange County Venture Group (OCVG), Orange County's leading venture capital networking organization dedicated to the growth of venture capital funding in Orange County, announced it has selected its board of directors for 2008. Marc Averitt, co-founder and managing director of Okapi Venture Capital will take the presidential reigns from Dan Bassett, a seasoned venture capitalist, in January 2008. Board terms are one year.
"Marc embodies what's best in the venture capital community and he is the ideal candidate to step up to this leadership role," said Bassett. "With his dedication, ideas, and direction, there is no doubt that he will help take OCVG to new heights next year."
OCVG hosts a series of monthly breakfast programs designed to bring venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and service providers together and get deals done. Attendance is typically in the hundreds. The organization's trademark event is VC in the OC, which was started by OCVG in 2004 and regularly draws a sellout crowd of more than 500 participants.
"Given the history of the organization and its importance to the local venture ecosystem, I'm honored to have been elected to lead this dynamic group and look forward to working with the board and OC start-up community to build on the success of my predecessors," remarked Averitt.
Averitt was elected at the annual OCVG Board of Directors offsite retreat on November 2, 2007 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Under the leadership of Bassett, OCVG coordinated this retreat with the San Diego Venture Group (SDVG) board, which included a first-ever "sharing session" between the two organizations. As a result, the two independent organizations plan to work more closely together on Southern California regional objectives in the future.
